Section B3 of the Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management – Third Edition, November 2004 covers the requirements for high visibility garments for use on roads.

a. Colour – the background fabric shall be fluorescent red/orange as noted in AS/NZS 1906.4

b. The garment design shall comply with the requirements of AS/NZS 4602, with the following clauses:

• Minimum amount of visible background material shall be 0.6m²
• Minimum amount of reflective material shall be 0.2m²
• Reflective elements shall be of a belt and brace pattern
• Each brace shall be a minimum 150mm apart at the belt, front and back
• The design shall include a shirt tail 150mm longer than the front
• A second reflective stripe shall be include on the shirt tail no higher than 50mm from the bottom hem
